Comment on the rescheduling of the match vs Morecambe

Wycombe Wanderers have announced the rescheduling of the home League 2 fixture against Morecambe. The game, originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday 15th December, will now be played on Friday December 14th with a KO time of 7:45 p.m.

This change is due to a fixture clash with the Club's tenants London Wasps, who have a televised Heineken Cup match on Saturday 15th December. This match has been scheduled for some time and officials from both clubs appear to have overlooked the resulting clash of fixtures until recently.

The Club consulted both Trusts regarding the rescheduling via our respective PLC Directors, Ian Mather and Keith Blagbrough. The Trusts responded in unison by stating our objections to the rescheduling of this match, or any other non-televised WWFC fixture.

The main reasons for the Trusts’ objections are stated below:
1. There is an ever increasing trend for football clubs to re-arrange fixtures away from their traditional kick-off of 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday. This causes major inconvenience to supporters. Saturday football, with 3pm kick off times, should remain sacred and the Trusts believe this to be a fundamental part of the football culture in this country.
The Supporters Trust wrote to the Club on this matter in July 2006 - See link Keep Saturday Sacred
2. The first consideration should be the Club’s supporters, some of whom travel considerable distances to watch home matches or will have arranged shift work, holidays or travel arrangements around the previously published fixtures.
3. Equally, consideration must be shown to visiting supporters, regardless of geography or travelling numbers. Both Trusts make strong representations to the Club when our away fixtures are rescheduled and will maintain a consistent position when defending the position of visiting supporters to Adams Park.
4. The Club has explained to the Trusts the commercial reasoning for their decision and have highlighted the difficulty of rescheduling the rugby match because it is to be televised. Nevertheless the Trusts are concerned by the precedent of a London Wasps' fixture being given higher priority than a WWFC fixture.

Both Trusts will continue to resist inappropriate fixture rescheduling, both home and away.
